I get this question a lot, from both people with homes and not that think it's easy...which it isn't. Blogging itself is only the start, for a person to 'make' anything really depends on the goals and skills of the individual.
When I started this blog, it was originally just an expression. If anything I wanted to 'do' something at a time I felt unheard. As I stabilized in my personal life, I continued in it as a hobby. It wouldn't be three years until I made one cent towards it...and that went to just prior upgrades to having my own self hosted site and web address.
There's a difference between really 'blogging' and outright making money, and varying levels between the two. Some people get involved with doing reviews of either products or sites, but the recent issues involving the FTC towards blogging put a damper on some online content writers. This was due to their own choices, going in the direction of seeming to be a paid advertiser rather than actual personal expression of experience.
Let's say a site wants me to link to and review oxyelite pro reviews. As long as I'm honest, don't overstep my boundaries, and don't mislead people...there's no issues. But if I were to say I'd personally used their service when I hadn't...that'd by what's considered a violation of ethics and morals. Most bloggers I know personally "don't" go there, although there's thousands more who do.
Will blogging 'get' you out of homelessness or 'make' your business? No, but it's a great communication tool to be heard while 'you' do the legwork and mind your business...because your business is only as good as you make it.
