Virtual Frugality

Years ago we didn't have the internet, let alone connected freely in libraries. It's ironic that while in India there is a proposed laptop computer that will sell for under $30USD, we still have arguments regarding unhindered public library access to the homeless.

They're not just playing games online. I've found many pursuing jobs, searching for homes, doing comparative shopping, much like what anyone else can do using vitacost coupons.

I was asked what my opinion was on this site. The best thing I can say is that anything that offers discounts to consumers is a big plus, especially when they can search and find or use such in their own environment rather than 'push' sales tactics in stores. Sites like this provide consumers a way to educate themselves to save for things that they need and want in the future.

And that puts the field level for everyone, whether homed or homeless.

Homes in North Carolina

With the long term effects on Florida's Coasts and the income flowing in from oil recovery on the ground level trickling down to the homeless finding new jobs, the savings have to eventually be put somewhere else. While the oil may be presently slowed/halted, there's a definate apprehension of formerly homeless now employed regarding investing in their home futures.

Thousands of Floridians; why do they always seem to be connected to government; will push "Come to our beaches" hearing this...to the point that the President is planning a visit in support of it. Myself, while I've been renting since leaving homelessness I have to look at long term effects...and it's why I've been looking outside the state.

One place that caught my eye was relatively close, some of the locations coming from Wilmington NC real estate. The opening page itself having some of what I've already been accustomed to...water...skylines...both city and urban residences, and like Florida there's no sign of mention about oil problems.

But the fact is Florida DOES have oil problems. The spill being the most significant in history claimed by some sites. North Carolina doesn't have that to my knowledge, and if they ever did there's more than enough inner area to migrate to with fresh water sources that would be unaffected.

Overall the Wilmington NC real estate is laid out decently for people interested in finding out more of what's available, the site's structure includes links from both recreational to government sites as well as educational point of contacts for each county they provide service in. The site is also iPod friendly, while they don't have a mobile version, it loads up decently in a standard Safari app on iPods.

So, like many other individuals who started out with nothing in their pockets in this country...if you're looking for a fresh start you might want to consider checking out sites like Wilmington NC real estate while you've got money in your pocket. The other option is to continue paying someone else for their property...that eventually may succomb to local variants out of your control, leaving you with nothing to show for your long term efforts.

Reading up on the back patters

Yesterday I was going through some RSS Feeds regarding what's been going on with Orlando's Food Not Bombs agency, their case regarding feeding the homeless there having to be taken up again.

Considering the amount of negative publicity the theme park city has; 3rd meanest towards the homeless; maybe they just need to rethink out of the box...no pun intended.

Years ago I pushed for consideration of CEOs and Directors to do just that, of engaging large manufacturers for the possibility of providing vital beta testing feedback. If homeless people need something...the manufacturers 'really' want to know if something's of use or not...then I say put it to the test in the trenches.

One item that would be a fantastic item for approach would be weight loss products. Between diabetes and other ailments due to obesity based on diet, there's tons of data that could be mined for a win-win situation by all. Being homeless isn't a crime, nor is becoming overweight at times during it's course...it's no different a long term residual effect than any other measurable symptom.

What you put in is what you get out of someone

Listening to some Peter Gabriel caused me to think about a pair of boots I saw a man wear a few years ago when I was doing street photography. Every place I turned to think where they'd gone, the same place came to mind...meal lines.

Many armchair quarterbacks have this image that homeless people have it so great. While Food Banks 'have' increased in bringing food back to the community where it's needed, people still face malnutrition even though the servings are big or available at multiple locations.

It was this reason my wife and I started using multivitamins, many meals served were high in carbohydrates and starches, but lacked the basic needs for a body whether young or old.

For years many people on the streets develop slowly over time the signs of rickets, diabetes, and other illnesses that 'can' be prevented...and in multiple decades experiencing homelessness in many areas, I've found only one location that included vitamins in a food line.

Then again, they were more holistic and worked at people getting back to work more so than the warehousing locations elsewhere. Pity.
